Hey.
I'm Michael, I'm 22y.o Polish (goedekoopste poolse jongen :P) , livin' in NL for round 3 years. I'm livin in Baarn, Utrecht with my BF and little monster - Freya.
Freya is almost 5 years old female ferret, she's livin' with us for more then one month already. She our love, and because of her we realised what we were both missin'. When I got ferret I started to gettin to know as much as I can about them and because I'm learnin pretty fast, it looks good for all (me, my bf and Freya :P) of us in the future.
I was asked to get some things from Polish Ferrets Friends Association, because of the really big diffrence of for example feeding and there's never enough about ferrets, richt?
In Poland, it's cheaper to buy diffrent kind of meat, cut it in small pieces and portion it and just put it into freezer, and give to ferret/s portion everyday.
In NL I noticed most of the ppl (if not all of them) are feeding ferrets with Prey Animals (mouses, rat, pigeons etc.)
I have got few questions, and If You, guys could give me some, real answers for them I'd be really grateful.!

1)Genre of Your ferret/ferrets?
2)Age of Your ferret/ferrets?
3)What age was Your ferret when he/she passed away?
4)How often do You viccinate Your ferret/ferrets (and what for)?
5)Names of vaccinations(suppose to have names in health book of Your pet/s)?
6)What kind of deasease had Your ferret/ferrets?
a)hearth problems(give a name; even in Dutch)
b)insulinoma
c)kidneys
d)liver problems
e)others
7)Do you have own breeding of ferrets?
8)How long?
9)Does Your ferret/ferrets documented origin/Do You know ancestors of Your ferret/s?
9)What do You give Your ferret to eat dialy (and how often)?
10)Do you use dry, commercial food for Your ferret? (give a name and how often)?

To Admistation - I'm speakin basic Dutch and I don't know if it is proper place to put the topic here, Thanks for Understanding.

If You have any questions - JUST ASK.! :D

Cheers.!

Hey Blondyn,

First of all, welcome here :D

You've got a lot of questions. I wonder why you are searching for these answers...just curious or with a special reason? Most of the answers you're looking for are already written in diverse topics. Perhaps difficult to read and understand for you ;)

One of the rules counting on this forum is that we don't promote breeding of ferrets, although some members do breed. Litters are not mentioned here.

Most of us have a topic abouth our beloved furry friends in the chapter " frettenverhalen" (ferretstories). Maybe you can get a hunch abouth their stories if you try to read them :D You'll find all kind of ferrets...male( ram in Dutch) or female( moer in Dutch), different colours, shorthair or angora, bred with pedigree or from a rescue/shelter. Some with a difficult background, some with illnesses or just healthy kits..we have it all on this forum :D

The most common health issues you find in Holland are insulinoma, adrenal disease, gastic ulcers or chronical gastritis, DCM(Dylatiore CardioMyopathie; heart condition), HCM (Hypertrofisch CardioMyopathie; heart condition), MOO ( middle ear infection, acute or chronic) ECE ( Corona infection which causes a chronical bowel disease) and a big variety of infections, general or of the digestic system . There are more health issues, but these ate the ones we see most. In the medical part of the forum you''ll find all kind of information abouth the health and diseases in ferrets.

We are in favour of Natural Raw Food but don't judge anyone who'd choose to give kibble. Some ferrets do need kibble or kibble brew because of health issues.
Kibble( commercial dry food) recommended by Hanneke Roest, the ferret vet, are Orijen kitten, Hill's kitten chicken, Royal Canin weaning ( veterinary only) and Totally Ferret active or baby.

We highly recommend to vaccinate your ferret against dog distemper(hondenziekte in Dutch). It's highly contagious for ferrets and is lethal. You'll need a boost after 3 weeks and an anual repeat. In case of travelling abroad, a rabies vaccine is needed, as well as a microchip and passport.

There is a lot of information for you to find in here. Both on the forum as well as in the wiki part. Off course it's all written in Dutch, but with a dictionary you might get the hang of it...besides it's a good training for your Dutch

Normally questions are asked in the proper topics. In this case I gave a general answer to yours in here, as there where a lot :D
If you want personal answers of other members, just say so and your questions will be split up and removed to the right places, for everybody to react. Although reactions can be placed in here, you have so many questions asked, it might get a bit confusing if all is mixed up ;)

Hope to hear more of you and Freya. Where did you get her?

Hi Blondyn, welcome from me too.

Lots of questions but I see that Karen answered all of them. Unfortunately for you this is a Dutch forum and wiki but I think Google Translate is your best friend for this. And of course, a good way to learn Dutch ;)

Have fun on our forum!

Hello,

I've been asked by my friend from Poland to make kinnda interview with Dutch People about ferrets. She needs that for the article she's going to write for Polish Ferrets Friends Association. I wrote that I think before the diffrence of feeding of ferrets in those two countries is a bit diffrent. In PL people because of the prices and also because of being not really able to give to ferrets prey animals r makin own meat mixes with food suplements. That can cause the diffrence with health, life time of animals, so by the interview She can compare the two life-styles of ferrets.

I made this subject, cause it was just easier for me to get answers from people just in one place, instead of askin' in every topic apart.

BTW I understand Dutch a little, my fiance is Dutch so I'm learnin, but it goes really slowly, it's difficult language. :D

Hey Blondyn, nice to see you here, welcome !

Now you have a good reason to learn the Dutch language very quick I think ? ! ;) Succes !

Nice to hear about your little ferret Freya ! It should be nice to put some photographs into the topic 'Frettenverhalen' so we can see your little girl Freya. Should be nice to see and hear about her !

Karen has already tells a lot about our ferrets, how we think and handle with our little friends.
Most people give Raw Food, my ferret can't handle fresh food so he get kibble to eat, Totally ferret.

Are there also other forums in Poland ? I will take a look at the Polish Ferrets Association, the girl who is making the article, has she also ferrets by herself ?

Have fun here on the forum, also take a look at the wiki, many pictures there also who tells something about our way of living with ferrets. :D

Hello,

I'll put some photos of Freya soon.!

In Poland is one great website like http://www.ferretta.pl" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - I don't really think it has own English translation. On the website is everything! I mean I can find there description of every vitamine and how it works on ferret, about breeding, diet, it's like our Polish Holy Bible of Ferrets.

And forum?

http://www.fretki.org.pl/forum_new/index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Where can talk, ask, and get to know also a lot about ferrets.

Girl who asked me bout to ask You guys has at this moment two ferrets - Suzi and Kokos. :P Lovely sweethearts.

Well I think would be a bit strange to write about somethin' if You have no experience.
It'd be like writtin about kids when You have no family.
I think so. :P
